Advisory Committee (BAC) is to give parents of English Learners (ELs) a direct voice in their children's education, ensuring the effectiveness of the school's bilingual and ESL programs.

The BAC is a legally required committee in any CPS school that has 20 or more students in its Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) program. Its core functions are to:

  • Advise the Principal: The committee provides direct advice and recommendations to the school principal and staff on all matters related to the specific needs of English Learners.
  • Influence the Bilingual Program: Parents in the BAC have a formal role in advising on the design and implementation of the bilingual program, including curriculum, instructional materials, personnel, and how program funds are spent.
  • Ensure Accountability: The BAC helps ensure that the school is meeting the unique linguistic and academic needs of its English Learner population, serving as a key partner in accountability and school improvement for these students.
  • Represent Families: The committee also elects a representative to the district-level Multilingual Parent Advisory Council (MPAC), ensuring that the concerns and perspectives of local school families are heard at the district level.
